Getting The Best Out Of Your Fruit & Veggies - Wash Them!
by Peita Pini | December 28, 2016
My husband is Italian and he doesn't care much for washing Fruit and Veggies before consumption, but I really do! I'm a bit of a clean freak and I like to know that our family's Fruit and Veggies are washed and clean before we eat them.
I do the majority of the cooking and shopping in our household, I also work full time and run The Swag on the side until the wee hours of the morning, so my hubby has stepped up and is doing a lot more cleaning and cooking - yay for me!
When I get my fresh produce home, I clean the sink and fill it with cold water and a big splash of white or Apple Cider Vinegar. The vinegar helps removes oils, pesticides and dirt. I give everything a quick rub, peel off the sticky labels (that are clogging our waterways and killing our marine life) and put them in the bin. Next I place my Fruit and Veggies on the side of the sink, on top of a tea towel to drain. Pat dry everything dry with a clean tea towel and then I pop everything into a slightly damp Swag.
It doesn't matter what my husband cooks anymore - I enjoy it all immensely as I know everything on our dish is washed!
