Potato Gratin, also called Dauphinois, is an inexpensive dish that will be greatly appreciated by the whole family, not just because it's delicious, but also for its flu-fighting nutritional benefits. Serve it as a side dish or a main and add bacon pieces for added taste and texture!

Ingredients:
- 1 kg potato (ideally Russet)
- 2 garlic cloves
- 65g butter
- 3 cups milk
- 200 ml heavy cream
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
Method:
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees C
- Butter a medium baking dish
- Clean, peel and thinly slice the potatoes (a mandolin is your best friend here!)
- Slice the garlic cloves
- Add milk, garlic, salt, pepper and nutmeg to a pot while stirring and bring to a simmer for 5 minutes
- Arrange some of the potato slices, edges overlapping, in a single layer on the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle a quarter of the cheese over the potatoes, and then pour a quarter of the cream over the cheese.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cheese, and cream, forming 4 layers. Pour any leftover cream over top and milk
- Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven
